This book is set in Denmark and I was surprised that the Germans pretty much left them alone for the largest part of the war. Iâ€™ve read so many WWII novels and yet Iâ€™m still amazed at the courage and strength that so many people had to survive such horrible acts of hatred. I respect her character for going to a foreign country to work, especially so close to war countries. I enjoyed Elseâ€™s character, especially the strength she had with confronting the person she was working under. I especially enjoyed the turn his relationship with his father took. It was interesting to read of Henrik and how he had changed after his motherâ€™s death. I enjoy this well written story with the friendships of those in the boarding house. The story has depth and a lot to think about. This story is set in Denmark during the war and gives a look into what it may have been like for the people at that time.
